Remind me again why we do this?  I should be elated, my ultimate goal was a 3:30 and my I'll be happy goal was 3:45 (BQ)- but I'm not.  I had maintained an 8:03 average page until the last 5 miles, at which time my legs did not want to continue and my right quad started to spasm so I ended up walking at least 1/10 of each mile.  I guess what I really want is to complete an entire marathon without having to walk.  So, as I think back over the race I wonder if I went out to fast, or was my training not good enough or am I just a wimp? Pain is temporary so why couldn't I just push through it?   My splits on my Garmin were as follows: 8:15, 7:43, 7:39, 7:35, 7:39, 7:47, 7:44, 7:47, 7:54, 7:57, 8:00, 8:07, 8:10, 8:13, 8:25, 8:15, 8:22, 7:59, 8:14, 8:09, 8:25, 8:32, 7:46, 8:53, 9:13, 9:59, 2:52 (.33 mi).  The last 3 miles cost me at least 4 minutes- Grrr- I was so close to my 3:30 goal.

Just a note- no matter how cute it is or who gives it to you never wear a new outfit on race day.  My daughter gave me a hot pink running skirt for Mothers day so I felt I should wear it,  Not such a good idea- it's bad enough to have tired thighs but tired, raw thighs really stinks.   Add to that 2 black toenails, and two quarter sized blisters.  And I chose to do this to myself.

OK- I feel better now.   The course was beautiful, and the aid stations were wonderful.  A little better training and some experience and I will rock this course!   Maybe next year.

St. George here I come.  Oh- and I can't forget Wasatch Back and Hobblecreek.

Does anyone know how to prevent muscle spasms?  This is my second marathon and I have had them in both at about the same mile marker.

YOU DID AWESOME!!!!! Sorry I did not cheer you on as you passed, I was asking every runner if they had seen Scott becasue I could not find him and he was barely moving when I had passed him. I felt really bad afterward!!! I was kind of freaking out at that point.

YOU DID GREAT!!!!!! Those last miles were brutal no matter who you were and how well trained you are. The downhill was a quad killer and it made it hard to keep moving to the finish.

St George is SO much easier to run. You get those hills much earlier, and at the end when you are tired you can just coast in. You will get 3:30 and better there for sure!!!

Thanks for chatting with me all morning, sorry for talking your ear off. Nerves get me going, but I am chatty no matter what! YOU DID AWESOME.

Here is to an awesome St George and a very FUN Wasatch Back. I still think we need to go ALL GIRL next year,it would be fun.

Oh, and the skirts are tricky. You have to find one with long enough and tight enough shorts underneath. You looked cute anyway! And dang toenails, I am losing 3 from that race. They have a heartbeat right now, they hurt so bad. WHY do WE do this?????

Great race ... you are very close to your goal. Muscle spasms could be a sign of not enough potassium. Electrolytes or lot's of banana's can help.

Michelle I completely understand how you feel! Not a time to really be disappointed with, but you still feel crappy about it. I'm glad you got your BQ and even better though!! Nice job!! I guess if potassium is the problem we should've stopped to get those bananas :) Thanks again for the ride - even though I was up EARLY I had a WONDERFUL time and was really exctied to get to know you better!!

It is Tuesday----how are you feeling BQ Queen????

From Shelly9 on Wed, May 20, 2009 at 00:12:26 from 76.27.55.22

Thanks for all the encouragement. It is nice to have something to shoot for, next time my goal will be 3:30 with no walking at the end. I'll definately remember to eat my bananas and try to get those electrolytes in balance. I'm excited to have qualified for Boston and do plan on running it.

Kelli- feeling good today, even thought about running. It's amazing how short our memory can be.

Too funny!!! My memory is not short at all, I have not thought about running!
